With her band Clannad, which also featured her famous sister Enya, Brennan put Irish folk music on the world map. Her biggest successes date from the 1980s, with the theme from ‘Harry’s Game’ and ‘In a lifetime’, a duet with U2’s Bono. Brennan’s career spans almost five decades, but ‘the voice of Clannad’ sounds as pure and bewitching as in its early days. She delivered proof of this last year when her eleventh solo album Canvas was released. With harps, string players, percussion and a voice you can recognise out of thousands, she paints an enigmatic Irish landscape, replete with babbling brooks, green hills and low-hanging fog, as if you are listening to a photo album.
