As a six-year-old boy, Arne Jesper Zeller (Germany, 2006) picked up the cello and never put it down again. His career has been going from strength to strength. At a young age, he studied with the best teachers and won many competitions. His latest trophy was first prize and the audience prize at the International Cello Competition in Budapest in 2025. The year before, he won the International Pablo Casals Prize. All these great results have taken him all over the world, including to Muziekgebouw Eindhoven. Arne Zeller is praised for his seemingly ‘easy’ playing, with which he performs Bach, Mendelssohn, and Weinberg, to name just three different genres.
With the works of Mendelssohn and Schumann, the cellist, accompanied by Italian pianist Jacopo Giovannini, embarks on a romantic journey. Mendelssohn’s Second Sonata is beloved for its Adagio, in which the composer was inspired by a chorale by Johann Sebastian Bach, whom he admired. Schumann’s Fünf Stücke im Volkston are lovely vignettes that have already found their way into the hearts of audiences in many arrangements. With Bridge’s Sonata, the cellist and pianist take a trip to England, where the teacher of the famous Benjamin Britten wrote his Sonata under the concerns of the First World War.
