The St. Matthew Passion is one of Bach’s most renowned and powerful compositions. His musical telling of the Passion of Christ is both compelling and moving, and remains extraordinarily popular to this day. This year, the traditional performances by the Philips Choir will be accompanied by the baroque orchestra La Sorpresa, which brings the distinctive sound of Bach’s masterpiece to life using authentic period instruments. The Philips Philharmonic Choir has upheld this special tradition since 1948 and has now performed the St. Matthew Passion for over 75 years. For both musicians and audiences, this masterpiece continues to be a highlight of the musical season each year.
