The Australian-Taiwanese pianist and composer Belle Chen is difficult to place within a single musical category. She does not limit herself to one genre; instead, her music presents a distinctive blend of classical, avant-garde, world music, jazz, electronics, and sound art. Her compositions reveal influences from composers such as Ravel, Sakamoto, and Hisaishi, and musician Brian Eno has praised her work for its originality and imaginative character. For her latest album, Ravel In The Forest, she drew inspiration from urban sounds and vivid natural environments, which she will present in this concert, alongside brand-new compositions.
