Boris Giltburg played an indispensable role when Muziekgebouw Eindhoven selected three new concert grand pianos in Hamburg. Tonight, Boris Giltburg will play two of the new pianos for the first time since the Steinways arrived at Muziekgebouw: one piano before the interval and one after. In 2013, the Russian/Israeli pianist won one of the most difficult piano competitions in the world, the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels. Since then, he has enjoyed a successful career. Giltburg is summoning all his strength for a programme featuring music from Bach to Rachmaninov. This is more or less a cross-section of the piano repertoire.

Ravel’s Gaspard de la nuit is a great challenge for any pianist: one of the most difficult pieces in the piano literature. Ravel based it on three poems. He himself said of his music, which is fantastic in many ways: ‘Gaspard was a real devil during its creation, but that is only logical because it was he who wrote the poems.’

Program
