The most famous notes in music history? It’s easy to guess: they must be the first four notes of Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony: ta-ta-ta-taaaa. You often hear them with an orchestra, but it can also be done differently. For example, on piano… The texture and structure of this masterful music may come even clearer. Pianist and conductor Richard Egarr knows this music like no one else, both orchestrally and for piano, and with the equally versatile Alexandra Nepomnyashchaya, he is the ideal performer for Czerny’s famous four-hand arrangements. Together, they are busy recording all of Beethoven’s nine symphonies. Today, a preview!
Beethoven didn’t make these arrangements himself; his student Carl Czerny did. Czerny is still famous for his hundreds of piano études. A man who knew how to get the most out of a piano. The program also includes two original works by Mozart. Mozart loved playing four-hand or two-piano duets, even as a child with his sister Nannerl. Four-hand piano was a new and popular novelty in the 1760s, as it made the instrument sound fuller while allowing the players to still shine individually. The Sonata KV 358 is from a later period when Mozart was 18.
