Gisela João

It was love at first sight when Gisela João’s debut album was released in 2013: Portugal instantly fell for the fadista, music critics couldn’t stop writing about her, and concert halls filled up. By now she is considered one of the most influential voices of her homeland and is often compared to fado legend Amália Rodrigues. After eight years, she returns to Muziekgebouw Eindhoven, this time with a concert centered around her album “Inquieta.” On this album she presents distinctive interpretations of works by, among others, José Afonso, José Mário Branco, and other important voices from the period of the Portuguese revolution and the fight for democracy.
