Hawijch Elders is a promising Dutch violinist and Artist in Residence at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel, where she studies with Augustin Dumay. She recently won first prize at the Premio Internazionale Antonio Mormone, one of the most prestigious and distinctive international violin competitions today. In 2023, she was awarded first prize at the Henri Marteau Violin Competition, and she previously received prizes at competitions including the Kogan and Odessa competitions. She has performed as a soloist with orchestras such as the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra and the Residentie Orkest, and made her debut at BOZAR Brussels in 2023. Hawijch forms a duo with pianist Sander Sittig and plays chamber music with musicians including Valeriy Sokolov and Maria Milstein.
National Musical Instruments Foundation
Hawijch plays a Gennaro Gagliano violin (Naples, ca. 1755) and a bow by Jean Pierre Marie Persoit (Paris, 19th century), on loan from the National Musical Instruments Foundation. This foundation supports 400 musicians with inspiring instruments and holds one of the largest collections of musical instruments in Europe: more than 500 instruments and 250 bows. The collection includes masterpieces from the history of Dutch violin making and continues to grow thanks to donations, gifts, and bequests. The foundation also promotes Dutch instrument making through new commissions. In this way, it plays an essential role in supporting musical talent and preserving cultural heritage.
