In 2024, Jaeden Izik-Dzurko won the prestigious Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship, receiving a significant cash prize and all the support needed to give his career a flying start. After his victory at the Leeds International Piano Competition in 2024, jury member Imogen Cooper praised him, saying: “Our goal was not only to find the best pianist but also the most complete musician, and that is exactly what we have done.” It’s no surprise that the young Canadian pianist also won prizes at the Paloma O’Shea Santander International Piano Competition, the Maria Canals International Music Competition, the Hilton Head International Piano Competition, and, last but not least, the Leeds Piano Competition 2024.

The saying “Jong geleerd is oud gedaan” (What is learned young, stays for life) turned for this Canadian piano prodigy into “jong gezégd is oud gedaan” (What is said young, is accomplished young). As a child, his parents would read him The Remarkable Farkle McBride, a picture book about a prodigy who learns to play every instrument in the orchestra. Little Jaeden memorized the entire text and would recite it loudly and often. When he began piano lessons at age five, he proved to be just as quick a learner as his childhood hero. He quickly began performing in concerts, won prizes, and moved to New York to study at the prestigious Juilliard School of Music.
