Clarinetist and composer Jaime Peña (Spain) explores in his work the poetic potential of everyday sounds, which he weaves together with his instrument through the use of electronics. He has performed with leading ensembles such as the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and the Netherlands Wind Ensemble, and graduated cum laude from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam in 2024. Pianist Vicky Juo (Taiwan) won, among other prizes, the 2023 Pianoconcours van de Lage Landen and the Beethoven Prize at the YPF Competition. She performs throughout Europe and regularly collaborates with, among others, the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra and the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra. This afternoon’s program explores the rich development of the clarinet in the 20th century, a period in which composers pushed and redefined the boundaries of the instrument. The clarinet emerges in all its versatility, from lyrical singing lines to refined, whispering sounds and sparkling rhythmic vitality.

Our lunchtime concerts are a delight to experience: both literally and figuratively! Taking a break in the middle of the day to relax for an hour with a nice concert in the Small Hall really makes the day feel refreshing. From piano recitals to chamber music and brass ensembles, the offerings are varied and innovative. Since we believe that emerging talent deserves a platform, our lunchtime concerts feature (recently graduated) students, competition winners, and other promising gems.
