With beautiful guitar playing and a soulful voice, Joanne leaves little intact of the dividing line between blues, rock, and soul. She plays as she is: unpolished, intense, and with visible pleasure in every note. On her latest album ‘Black & Gold’, you hear an artist who knows where she comes from but is not afraid to break new ground. For some time now, the British singer and guitarist has been living in Nashville, a city where music is a primary necessity of life and where the environment has clearly influenced her development as a musician. Live, that material takes on extra weight: heavier, sharper, freer, and there is always room for a nod to the blues heroes who showed her the way. Joanne Shaw Taylor is not called one of the strongest live guitarists of our time for nothing.
