Two voices, one simple accompaniment. And suddenly: light in the darkness. François Couperin’s Leçons de ténèbres are among that rare kind of artwork in which tradition and genius merge to produce perfection. Sopranos Rachel Redmond and Maïlys de Villoutreys gracefully deliver Couperin’s richly ornamented musical orations, demonstrating the refinement of these spiritual musings. Le Caravansérail accompanies the Leçons with a suite for viola da gamba and intimate harpsichord music.
