Norwegian pop singer Maria Mena first made her breakthrough as a teenager in her homeland, but conquered the rest of Europe in 2006 with the single Just Hold Me. Her fragile, melodic pop music is especially popular in the Netherlands; she reached the top ten with All This Time (Pick-Me-Up Song). In 2023, she released her eighth studio album And Then Came You, a record full of compelling pop songs about regaining confidence in love.

Amsterdam Sinfonietta’s New Year’s tour Breder dan Klassiek is a journey of discovery every year. They dive into the world of a pop or jazz artist, and conversely, the orchestra challenges the artist to explore the world of classical music for strings. In recent years, for example, the orchestra has worked with Rufus Wainwright, Jonathan Jeremiah, Blaudzun, Karsu and Wende. Together with Maria Mena, Amsterdam Sinfonietta presents an enchanting program in which her own songs merge with classical string music and a selection of beautiful covers.
