On Saturday 22 November, the fourth edition of the Merhaba Eindhoven festival will take place at Muziekgebouw Eindhoven, dedicated entirely to Turkish culture. The undisputed highlight of the day is the concert by Levent Yüksel. His music – a harmonious blend of pop, rock, and traditional Turkish influences – has been resonating with a wide audience for decades. The afterparty will be hosted by Music from the Orient and DJ Blue Flamingo.

During the day, you can experience Turkish culture at the free Bazaar – an afternoon for the whole family, full of music, food, workshops, and children’s activities.

Music from the Orient

Music from the Orient presents a performance that showcases the rich musical heritage of the Eastern Mediterranean, Anatolia, the Levant, and the Balkans. Founded in 2017 in Eindhoven as a project by Mercan & Bülent Kocuroğlu, Başak Ebret, and Önder Babur, Music from the Orient covers a wide range of musical styles and languages, including Turkish, Kurdish, Arabic, Greek, Ladino, and various Balkan languages. With a mission to connect people from diverse backgrounds and cultures, the group has organised numerous multicultural events, primarily in Eindhoven, but also across the Netherlands.

DJ Blue Flamingo

DJ Blue Flamingo (Ziya Ertekin) will once again host the afterparty, just as he did in previous editions. He has performed at renowned festivals such as Lowlands, North Sea Jazz, Roskilde, and Festival d’Île de France in Paris. Especially for Merhaba Eindhoven, he delves into the rich musical traditions of Turkey, his father’s homeland, blending both contemporary and traditional Turkish sounds.

Guest artist Music from the Orient

Yılmazcan Ersayın was born on January 4, 1996, in Istanbul. Can pursued his professional music career during his university years. After leaving the Music Department at Istanbul Bilgi University in his third year, he graduated from Istanbul University State Conservatory, Jazz Faculty, with a major in Trumpet. He is currently continuing his studies with a Master’s degree in Trumpet at Conservatorium Maastricht. He collaborated with the band Geeva Flava as both a trumpet player and producer, performing at the Montreux Jazz Festival as well as various national and international events, actively contributing to the group for eight years. Throughout his education and career, he has had the opportunity to work with many prominent artists, including Eda Baba, Nova Norda, Selami Şahin, Büyük Ev Ablukada, Volkan Konak, Çekirdek Kadro, and Bosphoroots.

Selim Aydin

Guest artist Music from the Orient

Selim Aydin was born in 1998 in Berlin and raised in Istanbul. He began his musical journey at the Istanbul Technical University Turkish Music Conservatory before continuing at Istanbul University State Conservatory, where he studied tuba and trombone. In 2018, he moved to the Netherlands to pursue higher education at Conservatorium Maastricht, completing a Bachelor’s degree in Classical Tuba and later a Master’s degree in Jazz Trombone. Selim’s artistry blends the discipline of classical training with the freedom of jazz improvisation. His sound world expands further through the use of FX pedals and electronic processing, creating a unique “techno-jazz” identity. He leads and performs in projects such as GIANT BEAT, Coolbop Trio, Dervish_Core, and Footwork Honey, and is also a member of the contemporary ensemble Orchestravian. He has performed at international festivals including North Sea Jazz Festival and JazzOUT Fest, and has collaborated with ensembles and artists such as Fringe Orchestra, Mosa Jazz Collective, Thursdaynight Big Band led by Dave Vreuls, and Jimmy Kelly & Street Orchestra.
