Three exceptional artists: Argentine pianist Nelson Goerner, Chinese violinist Ning Feng, and French cellist Edgar Moreau. The Guardian wrote about Goerner: “The sound was as delightful as always […] surprisingly beautiful.” Meanwhile, The Strad called Moreau’s “expressive range” impressive, “with an exquisite sense of nuance.” Ning Feng is certainly no stranger to Eindhoven; this winner of the Paganini Competition has even recorded several CDs here. Rachmaninoff’s grand Piano Trio élégiaque was a tribute to Tchaikovsky.

It all begins with Beethoven. The young, headstrong yet already mature Beethoven. With his impressive Piano Trio Opus 1 No. 3, he forever stepped out from under the shadow of his teacher Haydn. Haydn was quite surprised by what his student dared to compose… Shostakovich was also young, just 17, when he wrote his First Trio. He was head-over-heels in love with a charming girl. And with Rachmaninoff, we meet a third young man. His Trio élégiaque, written at age 20, is often considered his first masterpiece. Rachmaninoff was a close friend of Tchaikovsky, who named his younger colleague as his successor. It deeply saddened Rachmaninoff when Tchaikovsky passed away, a sorrow that echoes throughout his melancholic-elegiac trio, “in memory of a great artist.”
