In this lunchtime concert, the next generation of musicians shines. The Paddington Trio, winner of the Storioni Concours 2024, performs Schumann’s intense Piano Trio in D minor. Spotlight Artist Bruno Tobon, laureate of the Cello Biennale, takes center stage in two contrasting works. We open with Beethoven’s Seven Variations on a Theme from Die Zauberflöte, a playful dialogue between cello and piano. This is followed by Shchedrin’s Imitating Albéniz, full of Spanish flair. The concert concludes with Schumann’s Piano Trio No. 1, a masterpiece in which lyricism and drama merge, from a stormy beginning to a dreamy Adagio and energetic finale.

Program

Ludwig van Beethoven – 7 Variations on a Theme from Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte
Rodion Shchedrin – Imitating Albéniz
Robert Schumann – Piano Trio No. 1 in D minor, Op. 63

Lunchtime concerts

Our lunchtime concerts are a true delight—both literally and figuratively! Taking an hour in the middle of the day to unwind with a great concert in the Small Hall really refreshes the day. From piano recitals to chamber music and brass ensembles, the offerings are varied and innovative. Since we believe emerging talent deserves a stage, our lunchtime concerts feature (recently graduated) students, competition winners, and other budding talents.
