This summer, the Philips Symphony Orchestra invites you on a vibrant musical journey. Under the baton of Basque conductor Txemi Etxebarria, the orchestra brings to life music from his native region as well as from Latin America—rhythmic, compelling, and rarely heard. Special guest Garikoitz Mendizabal, a master of the traditional Basque flute known as the txistu, travels to the Netherlands especially for this occasion to perform as soloist in several works from his homeland. After the intermission, the orchestra dives into fiery dance music from the south: tangos by Piazzolla, Caribbean nights with Gottschalk, and the festive fireworks of Márquez’s Conga del Fuego Nuevo. In short: not to be missed!
