Hertog Jan Zaal
-The powerful timpani strokes at the beginning of his First Symphony, the sighs of resignation with which the strings open his Fourth, or the tender melody in… Brahms’ four symphonies are among the most beloved orchestral repertoire. They encapsulate the entire range of human emotions as a single, breathing symphonic cosmos. Schönberg arranged Brahms’ Piano Quartet, creating a ‘Fifth Symphony of Brahms’.
With its moving Andante and thrilling gypsy dance finale, this concert’s Hungarian-themed palette is perfectly complemented by Liszt’s gripping ‘Dance of Death’ and Kodály’s swirling dances. Jun Märkl and pianist Anika Vavić have shared a special musical friendship for years. It’s no surprise that the maestro immediately recommended her when Philzuid asked him for this concert.
