The RIAS Kammerchor was founded in 1948 by the radio station ‘Rundfunk im amerikanischen Sektor’ and has grown into ‘one of the ten best choirs in the world,’ according to the British Gramophone. The choir is particularly distinguished by its precise sound. It sings both early music and the very latest works. For this melodious Christmas program, the choir focuses on works by composers with a strong affinity for vocal music: English masters Dove, Howells, and Britten, as well as the Frenchman Poulenc. It promises to be a beautiful Christmas!
The RIAS Kammerchor will perform with 40 singers in a large formation. The ensemble, which celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2023/24, has frequently received awards: Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik, ECHO Klassik, a Gramophone Award, a Choc de l’année, the Prix Caecilia – you name it. It has collaborated with the Akademie für alte Musik Berlin, the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, and the Freiburger Barockorchester. Since 2017, Justin Doyle has been the principal conductor and artistic director. Under his leadership, recent recordings include Brahms’ Liebesliederwalzer, Handel’s Coronation Anthems, and the Messiah. The RIAS Kammerchor performed the latter in Eindhoven in 2023, a particularly impressive performance.
