“The flagship of Dutch culture,” Dutch newspaper NRC called the Storioni Trio. The trio has become an indispensable part of Dutch musical life and celebrated its thirtieth anniversary in 2025. Wouter, Marc, and Bart are familiar faces at Muziekgebouw Eindhoven: every year they host Storioni Festival, which attracts renowned international participants and is highly acclaimed. The trio often programs original pieces, and this evening is no exception. Works by Caroline Shaw and Florence Price, along with two famous orchestral works in chamber music versions. This allows you to hear entirely new and different things in the music.

In 2009, someone made a sensational discovery in an abandoned, dilapidated summer house in St. Anne, Illinois: a suitcase full of musical scores. It turned out to be manuscripts and previously unpublished music by Florence Price. She was the first composer in the first half of the 20th century who was both a woman and African-American. Her Adoration is from 1951. With his Prélude pour l’après-midi d’un faune, Debussy composed a grand pillar of Impressionism. And Beethoven’s Third Symphony, Eroica, had already marked a true revolution in music a century earlier. At the time, it was undoubtedly the longest, most original, and most expressive symphony ever composed.

Program

Shaw – Entr’acte
Price – Adoration
Debussy – Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune (arr.)
Beethoven – Symphony No. 3, ‘Eroica’ (arr.)
