In this concert, principal conductor Quentin Clare bids farewell to Symfonieorkest Eindhoven after eight years—an emotional departure, as the orchestra has felt “like family” to him. The central theme of the program is passionate and romantic love in all its complexity, musically expressing the tragedy of conflict and unfulfilled love. Let yourself be transported to the Paradise Garden and experience the pure happiness of lovers, away from the rest of the world. Elgar’s Cello Concerto, with its deep and personal sound, is both serene and beautiful, performed by Joris van den Berg, deputy principal cellist of the Concertgebouworkest. The orchestral suite Pelléas et Mélisande unfolds a medieval love drama set against a backdrop of castles, mist, lakes, caves, and dark forests. The concert concludes with the Romeo and Juliet fantasy-overture, based on Shakespeare’s play, featuring Julia’s famous love theme.

For the Love of Music

Community life is an important socio-cultural engine of our society. There is little else that connects people as much. The association is undoubtedly one of the most effective means against division in society. Both associations and enthusiasts, as well as independent practitioners of amateur art, can turn to Muziekgebouw Eindhoven. With the project “For the Love of Music,” we are pleased to make our venues available to everyone who loves music: creators, artists, and musicians from Eindhoven and the surrounding region.
