Traditionally, the Storioni Trio presents a beautiful program of diverse chamber music works in various ensembles during the Storioni Festival at the Muziekgebouw Eindhoven. This evening focuses on two German master composers. We begin with the Adagio & Allegro, Opus 70 by Robert Schumann. In this compact yet passionate work, dreamy introspection alternates with fiery energy.

Next comes the monumental Piano Trio No. 1, Opus 49 by Felix Mendelssohn. Mendelssohn wrote two piano trios; the first, Opus 49, is in D minor. It is a brilliant masterpiece from 1839 that was highly praised by Robert Schumann and many others, and was described as a “masterpiece of our time.”

After the intermission we return to Schumann with the Fantasiestücke, Opus 73. These are short character pieces that begin dreamily, full of melancholy, followed by playfulness and passion.

The evening concludes with the magnificent Piano Quintet in E-flat major, Opus 44, also by Schumann. This piano quintet is a classic example of the expressive interplay between the string quartet and the piano.

This concert is part of Storioni Festival.
