Discover up-and-coming talent at the lunchtime concerts

In the middle of the day, the music of rising talent fills our Small Hall: the lunchtime concerts are back. You don’t need to set aside a whole evening or be a seasoned concert-goer. It’s a moment to escape the midday rush, discover new music, and meet others.

Upon entering, there’s a relaxed atmosphere. On Thursday at 12:30 PM, the audience gathers for a musical break in the day. Visitors come alone, in pairs, or straight from work. Just a quick cup of coffee beforehand, and then off to the Small Hall, where the program begins.

Young talent and new creators

The lunchtime concerts provide a stage for young talent, competition winners, recent graduates, and other new creators. For them, it’s a chance to gain stage experience and share their music with an audience.

The program varies. One time you might listen to a classical cello-piano duo, the next time music and poetry come together, or you might hear jazz influences. A new generation of musicians brings different influences and their own ideas to the stage. That also makes the concerts appealing for those curious about unfamiliar music. Musicians also talk about the pieces they play and the choices they make. That way, you get to know not just the music, but also the people on stage.

Music and film come together

At the opening of this season, pianist and composer Seán Morgan-Rooney connected classical music with contemporary influences. His performance was more than just a piano concert: music and film came together. While Morgan-Rooney played the piano, a film by cinematographer Boris Peters unfolded on the screen behind him. He played with such intensity that he sometimes seemed to almost disappear into the piano.

Morgan-Rooney combined his own compositions, inspired by Ravel, with parts of Ravel’s Miroirs. A bold approach, where the existing music and his own pieces alternated and cast each other in a new light.

Lunch afterwards

Want to chat a bit and let everything sink in? In the foyer by the Kleine Zaal, you can stay after the show for homemade soup and fresh bread. A great chance to catch up with an old friend, chat with a colleague, or meet someone new.

Sometimes, during lunch, there’s also a chance to talk with the young musicians. About their background, their development, and what interests them. This way, getting to know them on stage continues in a more personal way.

An accessible concert, with room to contribute

A ticket for the concert costs €5. For €10, you can enjoy the concert and a cup of soup with bread afterward. We deliberately keep the ticket price low. To make these concerts and a stage for young talent possible, we actually invest more than the ticket sales bring in. Can and would you like to pay a little extra? That’s very welcome. With your extra contribution, you help us give young musicians stage experience and development opportunities.

A concert in the middle of the day, discovering new talent, and having lunch together afterward. That’s what comes together at the lunch break concerts in Muziekgebouw Eindhoven. On Thursdays at 12:30 PM, you can hear young musicians with their own ideas, stories, and music in the Kleine Zaal.
