MgE director Edo Righini appointed co-executive board member of concert and conference venue De Doelen Rotterdam

After four intensive and successful years, Edo Righini will leave Muziekgebouw Eindhoven on 1 July 2025 to take the next step in his career. He will join the executive board of concert hall De Doelen in Rotterdam, where he will form a new dual leadership team with current managing director Janneke Staarink at the iconic concert and conference venue.
Muziekgebouw Eindhoven is deeply grateful to Edo Righini for the significant contribution he has made to the development of the organisation over the past years. Under his leadership, Muziekgebouw Eindhoven underwent a profound and tangible transformation—artistically, socially, and financially. By focusing on top quality, talent development, and accessibility, he successfully repositioned Muziekgebouw Eindhoven as the cultural heart of the city and the wider region.

Financially, the cultural venue has been significantly strengthened. Own-source revenue has increased substantially, operations are structurally sound, and a positive financial buffer has been built up, providing room for continuity and innovation.

Ticket sales increased by an impressive 117% compared to the years prior to his appointment. The number of paying visitors grew by 56%, and the number of (inter)national top artists in the programme rose by 60%, further enhancing the artistic profile of the Eindhoven cultural venue. In addition, income from sponsorships and partnerships grew significantly, supported by a stronger anchoring within the regional ecosystem.

Significant progress has also been made on a social level: Muziekgebouw Eindhoven’s audience has visibly broadened and increasingly reflects the social diversity and richness of the Brainport region. This development is the result of a clear and sustained vision on inclusion, collaboration, and audience development. The partnership with the municipality of Eindhoven, as shareholder, has also proven constructive and valuable in recent years.

The Supervisory Board, the works council, and the team at Muziekgebouw Eindhoven thank Edo Righini for his inspiring leadership, his vision, and the strong foundation he leaves behind.

Shirma Rouse, Chair of the Supervisory Board: “Edo’s departure marks a great loss for Muziekgebouw Eindhoven. He has been a passionate leader, a collaborative colleague, and above all, a highly capable and dedicated director. We wish him the very best in his future endeavours—he will be truly missed. All the best!”

Alderman Maes van Lanschot (CDA), shareholder on behalf of the Eindhoven municipal executive: “Thanks to Edo, Muziekgebouw Eindhoven is thriving like never before. We thank him for the harmonious collaboration and wish him every success in his new role.”

The recruitment and selection process for a successor is being handled by Beljon Westerterp. More information can be found here.
