Muziekgebouw Eindhoven switches to sustainable reusable wine bottles
The reusable wine bottles were developed by importer Walraven Sax and Familia Torres, one of the world’s most influential Spanish wineries. This innovative bottle, known as the Torres Magnetic, has been specially designed to be refilled up to 50 times, resulting in 51% lower CO₂ emissions, 70% less water consumption, and a drastic reduction in packaging waste, according to research by consultancy firm Partners for Innovation.
The wine is produced at Familia Torres and then transported to the bottling facility, where it is bottled and prepared for distribution. From there, the wine is delivered to venues including Muziekgebouw Eindhoven. After use, the empty bottles are cleaned and returned to the bottling site, ready to be refilled once again.
Siegobert Jansen, Hospitality Manager at Muziekgebouw Eindhoven, says: “As a major cultural organisation, we also have a social responsibility, including when it comes to sustainability. We strive to make that a little more visible, audible, and tangible every day. We’re proud that our long-standing partners, Familia Torres and Walraven Sax, listened to our wish to offer our Torres house wine in reusable bottles – without compromising on quality, of course. It’s wonderful to see how even a small wine bottle can make such a big difference.”
Bart Gijtenbeek, Managing Director of Walraven Sax, says: “This is a real gamechanger. With the introduction of reusable bottles, we’re showing that top quality and sustainability can go hand in hand. This is the future of wine.”
Familia Torres hopes that this development will inspire other wineries to follow suit. Mireia Torres, the winery’s R&D Director, adds: “This bottle is more than just packaging; it’s a statement – an invitation to the entire wine world to take responsibility.”
