The perfect Sunday evening: drifting away at a lying down concert
The lying-down concert opens its doors at 7:15 PM. Visitors come in with surprisingly lots of luggage: yoga mats, cushions, blankets, and even air mattresses. For a moment, it seems like everyone plans to spend the night at DOMUSDELA. But that’s not the case. The items they brought are meant to make the concert as comfortable as possible.
Warming up with tea
In the hall, the mats are rolled out and the cushions are arranged. This evening doesn’t start with music, but with tea. Bjorn Cocu, Master of Tea, pours everyone a delicious cup of tea and takes you on a specially curated tea experience. Drinking tea is not only nice and warm, but it also helps get you ready for what’s to come.
After that, Erik Gijselhart from Licht op Yoga takes over. With various yoga exercises and a meditation, the hustle and bustle of the outside world is exchanged for the calm of the room. Even the sounds from outside are included in the meditation. Letting go was the focus. The city’s busy vibe seems to slowly fade into the background. Everyone is in their own world. The transition from meditation to music seems to blend seamlessly. Before you even have a chance to realize it, the first notes of the piano sound.
Slowly winding down Sunday
Pianist Thomas Umbaca takes the audience into his musical world. The piano forms the base, but electronics, guitars, synthesizers, vocals, and acoustic elements continuously add new layers to the music. An immersive, ever-changing landscape full of emotion that never gets boring.
When the music starts, the hall is full of visitors, each settled in their own way. Some lie with their eyes closed, others watch the light or listen closely to the pianist. The mats, cushions, and blankets that seemed a bit unusual upon arrival are now indispensable.
Slowing Down with Sound & Silence
Sound & Silence focuses on the combination of classical music and modern, experimental elements. The emphasis is on neoclassical music: a blend of the elegance of classical music with the spontaneity of pop and the minimalism of contemporary styles. This mix brings serenity to a busy world, inspired by great composers like Bach and Debussy, but with a modern twist.
A musical experience that invites you to slow down. Listening while lying down changes the way a concert is experienced. Without chairs, without the usual distance between the stage and the audience, and with your eyes possibly closed, the focus is entirely on the experience. A lying-down concert is more than just listening to live music; it is experiencing a concert.
