Hertog Jan Zaal
-“An increasingly passionate and exhausting whirlwind of dancers, brought to life and swept away by the waltz.” This is how Maurice Ravel tried to explain La valse to a Dutch journalist, describing what it meant to him. Was it not about the end of an era, an exhilarating dream of death and decadence? Yes, you can hear all of that, but Ravel primarily created a brilliant French ode to the Viennese waltz.
This French-inspired program, full of orchestral colors and exhilarating melodies, is in excellent hands with our rising Taiwanese maestro. With piano virtuoso Dennis Kozhukhin (“dizzying” according to the Chicago Tribune) in the devilishly virtuosic Paganini Rhapsody by Rachmaninoff, this is a concert you won’t want to miss!
