For its successful annual New Year’s concert series, Breder dan klassiek (Broader than Classical), Amsterdam Sinfonietta joins forces with an artist from outside the classical world. The orchestra has previously collaborated with the likes of Rufus Wainwright, Karsu, and Maria Mena. Now, it is Huub van der Lubbe’s turn. Following a memorable tour with his band De Dijk in 2014, he returns to the orchestra as a solo artist.
His rendition of Jacques Brel’s Amsterdam with Amsterdam Sinfonietta at the 2025 Prinsengrachtconcert offered a brief preview of this collaboration. For over forty years, Van der Lubbe was the frontman of the iconic band De Dijk; he has also acted in various films and musicals and now performs in theaters both solo and with smaller ensembles. Together with the orchestra, he will perform his own songs alongside hits by De Dijk, seamlessly interwoven with classical repertoire.
