Julian Lage is one of the most virtuosic and versatile jazz guitarists of his generation. The California-born musician is conquering the jazz world with his warm, melodic sound, which blends influences from swing, bluegrass, and rock ‘n’ roll. As the winner of an Independent Music Award and five-time Grammy nominee, the Blue Note artist continues to surprise with his refined playing and boundless musical curiosity. In recent years, Lage has found his way into numerous genres, from traditional jazz and country to avant-garde, collaborating with Bill Frisell, Chris Thile, and John Zorn, among others. In the run-up to Bridge Guitar Festival Eindhoven, he will be playing in a quartet at MgE.
For his new album ‘Scenes from Above’ and this tour, Lage surrounds himself with his ideal musicians: bassist Jorge Roeder, drummer Kenny Wollesen, and keyboardist John Medeski (from Medeski Martin & Wood). He devised a creative approach for creating this album: setting a timer for twenty minutes, writing a new melody, and then starting over. This process resulted in a series of fresh, lively compositions in which Lage asserts himself more emphatically than before as part of the quartet.
