Guitar virtuoso and rising star Plínio Fernandes blends the music of his homeland, Brazil, with the baroque elegance of Bach. Since the young Brazilian moved to London—a long-cherished dream—his career has skyrocketed. He signed an exclusive recording contract with Decca, was named a Rising Star by Classic FM, and won the Revelação Award at the annual Prêmio da Música Brasileira. His list of chamber music partners includes illustrious names such as Lang Lang and Sheku Kanneh-Mason. This afternoon, Plínio Fernandes performs music from his latest DECCA album, Bacheando—a fusion of Brazilian colors from Villa-Lobos and the baroque brilliance of Bach.

“Many people assume I started with bossa nova and samba, but that’s not true,” Plínio Fernandes said in an interview. “From the very first note I played, I was a classical guitarist.” He studied in São Paulo and London. “One of my teachers once told me, ‘Music is made of sound.’ That has always stayed with me.” And what a beautiful guitar sound Plínio Fernandes has. Since legendary guitarist Segovia dared to take on Bach, his works have become a milestone for every classical guitarist. With Bacheando, Plínio Fernandes has firmly placed himself among great guitarists and Bach interpreters like Julian Bream and Andrés Segovia.

This concert is part of BRIDGE Guitar Festival Eindhoven 2026.
