Sona Jobarteh

Badinyaa Kumoo

  • Afrikaans

Gambian musician and singer Sona Jobarteh is the first female virtuoso on the kora, a West African string instrument that sounds like a cross between a harp and a guitar. Trained at the Royal College of Music in London, she combines virtuosity with a warm voice and an eclectic mix of blues, Afro-pop, and traditional music. Jobarteh builds bridges between cultures and generations, touching people all over the world with her accessible, soulful melodies. In addition to being a musician, she is the founder of The Gambia Academy, through which she is committed to educational innovation in Africa. After previous successful performances, she returns to Muziekgebouw Eindhoven with her new show ‘Badinyaa Kumoo’; a celebration of family, community, and connectedness.
