Cristina Branco

“Menina” (girl) is the title of Christina Branco’s fourteenth, and latest, album. Inspired by a dream about Las Meninas, the famous painting by Velázquez, this fado singer set out to uncover what it means to be a woman. ‘This album emerged from sleepless nights. I didn’t sleep, because the music would come to me at night.’ Branco collaborated with many well-known writers such as novelist António Lobo Antunes, rapper Kalaf Angelos, and not to forget, her steady group of songwriters. The result? A set of subtle, experimental and atmospheric songs, centred around the girl that is hidden within every woman.
