Antonio Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons is more than just music. It is a vivid musical illustration, capturing life and nature throughout four adventurous seasons… All four concertos teem with living creatures and dramatic events. Within the music, you can discover citizens suffering from the biting cold and scorching heat, piercingly chirping birds, sighing winds, annoyingly barking dogs, dancing shepherds, dizzy, drunken peasants, buzzing mosquitoes and flies, and so much more… But how do you actually recognize these characters in the music? Today, you will discover the special musical ingredients Vivaldi used to bring them to life.
Each of the four sessions will focus on one specific concerto, spotlighting a single season at a time. The course will follow the original order of the composition: Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter. Together, we will listen to the music, discuss the key musical moments, identify the characters and scenes, and analyze Vivaldi’s clever tricks. Tricks that spark our imagination and bring the entire landscape to life.
No prior musical knowledge is required, and the sessions can be followed independently. The mini-course will be conducted in English.
