Home of the Creators

In 2024, Yuan Xia from China, SeongYeon Kong from South Korea, and Miguel Traquina from Portugal captivated audiences during the final of the TROMP International Percussion Competition. On this evening, each of them is given an hour to build their own artistic world, featuring new music, unexpected collaborations, and personal stories that reach far beyond the traditional concert format.

Miguel Traquina explores the intersections of percussion, voice, and bass guitar in a program centered on reimagined songs by Chelsea Wolfe alongside newly created works. SeongYeon Kong expands on her acclaimed TROMP project Buk in a theatrical exploration of Han—the Korean concept embodying longing, loss, and resilience. Yuan Xia presents a program rooted in his Chinese musical heritage, where sound, depth, and sincerity take center stage.

Between the sets, new work emerges in the moment itself. TROMP laureate Yi-Ping Yang joins dancers from Open Your Mind for a live improvisation in which music and movement challenge and inspire one another.

Afterwards, the audience becomes part of the creative process.

Together with La Maquina and the Open Your Mind community, Home of the Creators culminates in an open jam session where the boundary between artist and audience begins to dissolve. One of the most beloved moments of TROMP 2024 returns: a space to listen, connect, move, and participate.
