Violinist Isabelle van Keulen has been artistic director of the Deutsche Kammerakademie Neuss am Rhein for six years. With this outstanding orchestra, the Dutch violinist plays Vivaldi Recomposed, a special adaptation of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons by film composer Max Richter. A version that has rivalled the original in recent years. Not surprisingly, while retaining the original beauty, Richter has added a strong touch of contemporaneity to Vivaldi’s immortal music. The result is a beautiful mix of earthy sounds and magical electronic ‘landscapes’ in which the solo violin continues to play the leading role and the familiar notes take on a cinematic character.

As a classically trained and experienced composer, Max Richter drew on his own knowledge and skills in his adaptation, but also took inspiration from composers such as Philip Glass, Arvo Pärt, Steve Reich, and Brian Eno. Based on his preference for repetitive patterns (minimal music), he became fascinated by Vivaldi’s patterns. He unraveled them and created an ambient remix that stimulates and moves the listener and enhances the color of Vivaldi’s music. Sometimes Vivaldi is in the foreground, sometimes Richter.
