Intimate conversations between a violin, a viola, and a cello. It doesn’t get any purer than this.

These three string players found each other through their love of chamber music. And they speak the same musical language. This afternoon, they will do so in the singing Viennese tones of a sparkling Schubert and a mature Mozart. Wolfgang Amadeus composed his Divertimento for string trio—the only piece he ever wrote for this combination—toward the end of his life. Having completed his late orchestral symphonies, he returned to this small ensemble. And what a masterpiece it turned out to be! Forty-five minutes of music, a heavenly variety of brilliant ideas, and sheer musical beauty.

Maria Milstein and Quirine Viersen have been performing together for years in various chamber music formations, including the renowned Reizend MuziekGezelschap. Their performance last season here at Muziekgebouw Eindhoven, alongside clarinetist Olivier Patey, violist Georgy Kovalev, and violinist Mathieu van Bellen in clarinet quintets by Brahms and Mozart, was a true highlight.

Today, Maria Milstein and Quirine Viersen will be joined by the talented violist Elisa Karen Tavenier. She is a member of the Dutch Animato Quartet, a young Dutch string quartet that has won numerous prizes and is gaining international acclaim.
