Mezzo-soprano and global star Magdalena Kožená is acclaimed as a soloist with top orchestras and shines in renowned opera houses. Kožená holds a special place in her heart for our chief conductor, Duncan Ward. She first met Duncan when he, as a twenty-year-old, assisted her husband, the illustrious conductor Simon Rattle, with the famous Berlin Philharmonic.

‘Duncan was so young, but the musicians showed him great respect,’ she revealed in an interview. Philzuid is proud to present her for two masterpieces in one evening. She will perform the enchanting vocal adventure Where are you? by Adámek, and also the vocal solo in the final movement of Mahler’s Fourth Symphony, where earthly tears and heavenly joys blend in the lushly romantic orchestral music.

Program

Adámek – Where are you? (Dutch Premiere)
