With five-time Grammy-winning singer Angélique Kidjo, the rich tradition of African music meets the symphonic sound of the Metropole Orkest in their new project African Symphony. The program pays tribute to the great voices of Africa, featuring music by artists including Miriam Makeba, Fela Kuti, Youssou N’Dour, Rema, and Burna Boy. Kidjo’s own songs will also be performed — music that has itself been a major inspiration for a new generation of African artists. For this project, Kidjo collaborated with acclaimed American bassist, composer, and arranger Derrick Hodge, known for his work with Robert Glasper, Common, and Jill Scott. Together, they created a symphonic setting in which the energy, rhythms, and stories of African music can fully come to life.
