What happens when you give three international percussionists just three days to create an entirely new recital together with composers, musicians, and a visual artist? On September 27, you’ll see the result: three personal 35-minute programs filled with new works, live collaboration, and world premieres.
The TROMP Final is not an evening where the same pieces are performed side by side. Each finalist creates their own artistic universe, developed in collaboration with the renowned Dutch ensemble Het Muziek, Japanese composer Malika Kishino, Scottish dramaturg and creator Genevieve Murphy, and visual artist Jurjen Alkema. The result: three world premieres in a single afternoon.|
At the heart of each program is a new composition by Malika Kishino for solo percussion and ensemble. In addition, Genevieve Murphy creates material specifically tailored to each soloist. The outcome is three completely distinct experiences that reveal not only how someone plays, but, more importantly, who they are as an artist.
During the TROMP Percussion Final, everything comes together. Audiences, creators, programmers, and international professionals experience how percussionists work across disciplines with the very latest artistic developments, presented in one of the Netherlands’ most distinctive concert halls. It is an afternoon in which new music comes into being before your eyes, where artistic choices become visible, and where the future of percussion unfolds live on stage.
