For generations, the St. Matthew Passion has held a special place in the cultural heart of the Netherlands. Every year, in the weeks leading up to Easter, listeners gather to experience Johann Sebastian Bach’s monumental masterpiece, a work filled with deep emotion, reflection, and humanity. More than a concert, it is an essential tradition, in which music gives voice to grief, doubt, compassion, and hope. The Philips Philharmonic Choir and the baroque orchestra Florilegium Musicum bring this timeless work to Muziekgebouw Eindhoven in a performance that invites us to pause and listen more deeply. With well-known chorales, intimate arias, and compelling narratives, Bach sketches the last days of Jesus Christ in a story of human vulnerability and enduring love. Performed on original period instruments and baroque replicas, the music sounds as it was heard in Bach’s time.
For the Love of Music
Community life is an important social and cultural driving force in our society. Few things bring people together in the same way. Associations are without a doubt one of the most effective means against division in society. Both associations and individual enthusiasts or independent practitioners of amateur art are welcome at Muziekgebouw Eindhoven. With the project For the Love of Music, we are happy to open our halls to everyone who loves music: creators, artists, and musicians from Eindhoven and the surrounding region.
