Satire and double meanings revealed

‘Carnaval des Animaux’ is a strange exception in Saint-Saëns’ body of work, a composer known for his consistent and conservative style, not exactly the life of the party. First, there’s the colorful zoo, captured in a refined way through notes. What lies behind it all is revealed by Maestro Jules: satire and double meanings. Animals, after all, are just like people. Alongside kangaroos, a roaring lion, turtles, and an entire chicken coop, we hear ‘Pianists,’ ‘Characters with long ears,’ and ‘Fossils.’ Are there scores to settle here, with composers, politicians, or critics being ridiculed? And what are wine glasses doing in an aquarium, anyway?
Together with the piano duo C-SISTERS and supported by film projections, he unravels the secrets of the masterpiece ‘Carnaval des Animaux’. During Jules’ story, the orchestra plays the crucial fragments and special solos. What is the story behind this music? How do you bring all these animals to life? After the intermission, the entire piece is performed, the film clips return, and you experience the music with fresh ears!
