Under the direction of conductor Txemi Etxebarria, the Philips Symphony Orchestra takes you on a musical journey full of contrasts and depth. Together with the radiant soprano Josephina Louise Hoogstad and the renowned Spanish choir Coral de Bilbao, the orchestra presents a program that shines with color and intensity. The concert opens with the Festive Overture by Dmitri Shostakovich, a vibrant and virtuosic opening work. This is followed by Francis Poulenc’s Gloria, a moving and lyrical piece in which choir and orchestra merge into a heavenly harmony. The program concludes with Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 10, a masterpiece of dramatic power and emotional depth, written during a time of personal and political tension. Let yourself be carried away by this unique combination of lightness, spirituality, and profound expression.
