The Romantic Robert Schumann left behind the most beautiful works for piano. Though Schumann was not a virtuoso at the keyboard, he was fortunate to have the master pianist Clara Schumann by his side. Together, they created some sparkling works for piano and orchestra. Famous is his wonderfully romantic Piano Concerto. Now, French master pianist Cédric Tiberghien and Philzuid advocate for two lesser-known piano concertos by Schumann. These are intimate concert works in which the composer seeks a refined balance between orchestra and piano soloist. Schumann completed his Introduction and Allegro Appassionato in just a week. A mini piano concerto worth discovering. Even the magical opening chords immediately grab the listener’s attention. His other piano and orchestra work, Introduction and Concert Allegro, captivates you from beginning to end. It is one of Schumann’s last compositions. This mini-piano concerto was a birthday gift for his wife Clara and is dedicated to his good friend Johannes Brahms. Even at the end, Schumann seduces with enchanting piano melodies and intimate lyricism.

Additionally, Philzuid takes a journey into the Bohemia of Antonín Dvořák. The Czech composer was fascinated by the vivid poems of his countryman Karel Erben. Striking folk legends full of gruesome details. In four symphonic poems, Dvořák lets his musical imagination flow freely once again. Conductor Duncan Ward guides the listener through the terrifying fairy-tale world of The Wood Dove and The Golden Spinning Wheel. In the cinematic, thrilling The Golden Spinning Wheel, the death of a girl is avenged by a prophetic golden spinning wheel. In The Wood Dove, a funeral march-like theme runs through the composition as a red thread. Dvořák is inspired by the cruel fairy tale of a lighthearted woman who poisons her husband. The warning, cooing sound of the wood dove eventually drives the woman to madness.
