‘Unexpected things make a concert special; I prepare so that the unpredictable can happen,’ said Vilde Frang, who views her ability to get ‘inspired’ as her greatest talent. Tonight, the Norwegian star violinist will draw inspiration from Elgar’s rarely performed yet extraordinarily beautiful Violin Concerto—a passionate masterpiece full of mystery and captivating melodies. ‘With her exceptionally beautiful tone, glowing from the lowest strings to the highest notes, she seemed to honor the source of Elgar’s inspiration,’ wrote The Guardian enthusiastically about her performance.

A free introduction will be held at 19:30, made possible by the Friends of Muziekgebouw Eindhoven.

Robin Ticciati is soon to conclude his tenure as chief conductor of the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin. The British maestro with Italian roots is one of the most exciting conductors of the moment. He succeeded illustrious predecessors such as Lorin Maazel and Riccardo Chailly at this top German orchestra. For eight years, Ticciati inspired the DSO with unexpected ideas, including free improvisation and playing on gut strings. Now they join forces once more for Sibelius’s beloved Second Symphony. Pulsing with a sense of freedom, from the dark Andante to the triumphant finale, it leaves no one untouched.
