How do composers and directors subtly shape our emotions? Which musical choices make a scene unforgettable, moving, or breathtakingly suspenseful? In Maestro Jules: Film Music, Jules van Hessen not only reveals how music works in film, but, above all, lets you experience what music does to you. Before the interval, you’ll hear famous classical works, from Mozart’s beautiful Clarinet Concerto—made immortal by the film Out of Africa—to Ravel’s Boléro, known from the cult classic 10. After the interval, enjoy original soundtracks from blockbuster films such as Pirates of the Caribbean, Jaws, and The Lord of the Rings. A special role is reserved for soprano Laetitia Gerards, known from popular Dutch television programmes including Wie is de Mol? and Beste Zangers, who performs some of the evening’s vocal highlights. Clarinettist Abel Honée will also take the stage as a soloist; at just 15 years old, he recently won the Audience Award at the Princess Christina Competition. An evening filled with recognition, insight, and pure listening pleasure!
