The Dokwerk Saxophone Quartet, founded in 2019, performs a program that seeks inner peace and connection. The quartet presents works by Philip Glass, Jörg Widmann, Hugues Dufour, and Ehsan Tafreshi, in which virtuosity and moments of silence alternate. The music evokes the image of an inner island, a peaceful place where time slows down, far away from the hustle and bustle of modern life. This island offers space for self-reflection but can also evoke fear due to the silence and emptiness that we often avoid. Nevertheless, the music offers protection and reminds us that we are connected in the greater whole of life. The quartet consists of Lisa Schreiber, Jen-Hong Wu, Ileana Termini, and Pedro Silva, who met during their studies at the Conservatory of Amsterdam with Arno Bornkamp. They represent the Dutch saxophone school with innovative programs that explore the versatility of the saxophone.
