With a successful album and a subsequent tour through Belgium and the Netherlands, pianist Helena Basilova has already put her idol and source of inspiration, Ryuichi Sakamoto, firmly in the spotlight. This Japanese musical visionary mastered nearly every genre. Sakamoto is best known for his iconic film scores, including Little Buddha, The Revenant, Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence (in which he also acted), and his Oscar-winning score for The Last Emperor. Now, Basilova joins forces with violinist Jeffrey Bruinsma and cellist Geneviève Verhage. Together, they have created new arrangements of Sakamoto’s legendary piano trio album 1996, featuring some of his most beautiful film music.

Let yourself be carried away on a journey through Sakamoto’s musical universe, where jazz, film, classical, and experimental influences intertwine. Pianist Helena Basilova—described by The New York Times as “sensitive and full of flair”—along with versatile violinist and musical innovator Jeffrey Bruinsma and the dynamic cellist Geneviève Verhage, share their passion for Sakamoto’s atmospheric, minimalist soundscapes. Their concert brings to life the spirit of Sakamoto’s grand 1996 world tour with cellist Jaques Morelenbaum and violinist Everton Nelson. A must-see for lovers of intimate, cinematic music—perfect for drifting away into a world of sound.
