In 1957, more than ten years before the founding of Kraftwerk, the first electronic music recording was made by Song of the Second Moon. The recording took place at Philips Natuurkundig Laboratorium (NatLab). Even today, Song of the Second Moon sounds like an early precursor to Kraftwerk. Perhaps that is why the connection between Eindhoven and Kraftwerk is so strong. In 2025, Willem published his book De Trans Brabant Express, about how the Netherlands has changed over the past fifty years. Eindhoven and Philips feature prominently in the book. On Sunday, May 31, he will give a lecture at the Philips Museum about the book, reflecting on Philips’ role in the development of electronic music, as well as that legendary Kraftwerk performance.

Note: for this lecture, a special combined ticket from the Philips Museum is required. With this ticket, you get access to both the lecture and the museum. Available via the “Tickets” button.

Kraftwerk is returning to Eindhoven on 11 June
